Giulio Biccari, has been fascinated by photography and image making since childhood.

Born in Johannesburg to working class Italian immigrant parents, his earliest paid jobs were working as an usher at the local cinema and printing black and white photographs for a community wedding photographer.

He graduated with a BA Dramatic Arts (Hons) at Witwatersrand University and majored in Film.

For many years he worked as a documentary cameraman capturing the changing political landscape of the times and slowly became immersed in film and television work, filming extensively in South Africa and the UK.

Feature films Giulio has shot include: “Forgiveness” (best cinematography award Durban International Film Festival 2004), “U Carmen e Khayelitsha” (Golden Bear winner 2005), Son of Man (official selection Sundance Film Festival 2006) and “Black Butterflies” (Best Film Netherlands Film Festival 2011, Best actress Carice Van Houten Tribeca Film Festival 2011, best Cinematography SAFTA awards 2012)

Television work includes the CBC and BET produced mini series “The Book of Negroes”, Emmy nominated BBC drama “Luther”, “Da Vinci’s Demons” (Starz),“ Spotless” (Canal Plus) and HBO drama Series “No 1 Ladies Detective Agency ”.

More recently, Giulio has just completed work on “Stay Close” for Netflix, “Noughts + Crosses” for BBC and prior to that several episodes for “Warrior” produced by Bruce Lee Entertainment and Netflix.
